International Women’s Day 2021
To celebrate International Women’s Day 2021 we thought we would introduce you to some of our newest members of the Rutherford Team! Meet Abbey, Lizzie and Michaela from Rutherford Estates. On International Women’s Day, we want to celebrate the great impact and contribution they are making with the ongoing support & management of existing and future construction projects at Rutherford.
Abbey Kelsey - Project Support Officer
"I am relatively new to the Rutherford Estates team joining in September 2020, making me a pandemic newbie! The transition to working from home has been all the easier with the great team at Rutherford Estates and thanks to Lizzie and Michaela who are my oracles of information!
I came from a small busy Architectural Practice in Cardiff managing the Health Care projects from feasibility to completion. I decided to leave the CAD and Revit career behind to focus on my project management skills. The experience of managing projects through the various onsite stages and my design background have proven to be an asset to the Rutherford Estates team.
I am currently working with Lizzie, senior project manager on the final project closure at Rutherford Cancer Centre North West and supporting the Rutherford Estates Team on various projects onsite and from home. I am also in the process of gaining my project management qualifications which I look to progress and further my career within Rutherford.
My day-to-day interactions are varied with site visits, meeting design teams, contractors, quantity surveyors and the Rutherford Estates team virtually with no day being the same.
I look forward to the future with Rutherford with all the new significant developments at Rutherford Estates and the potential for new Rutherford Cancer Centres and Diagnostic Centres across the UK."
Lizzie Williams – Senior Project Manager
"I boarded The Good Ship Rutherford Estates in July 2020 and am now 8 months into a very exciting expedition. The Rutherford world is not entirely new to me; I previously had the pleasure of seeing the planning, construction at RCCNW during my previous Role with Elekta as Project Manager for the Versa Linac installation. It has given me great satisfaction being part of the Centre’s journey post equipment installation and onward with patients coming through the doors.
I am currently heading up the Technology Integration of the new Rutherford Diagnostics Centre in Somerset. Working alongside contractors, equipment manufacturers, clinical, estates and IT teams to maximise the success of the first Rutherford Diagnostic Centre.
On both of these key projects, the teams have been pulling together despite restrictions on face to face and on-site meetings. Through online meetings, phone chats and numerous Friday-afternoon “bombshell” calls, we have thrived! For me there is nothing more exciting than donning a high viz and hard-hat. Getting out on site gives a clearer picture of how a project is going against plan.
I am very fortunate to do this supported alongside a great team: of which Michaela and Abbey are the backbone. Not only with the quality work they do, also as absolute tonics at the end (or start!) of a long day.
At Rutherford Estates, Project Management is not always smooth sailing…, but when you have great crewmates the journey is much more of an adventure."
Michaela Evans – Project Support Officer
"I joined Rutherford Estates as a project support officer in December 2019 following five years working as a contract manager for a Welsh Housing Association. Prior to this, I had various roles within the housing and community sector, including posts with the local authority and charitable organisations.
I am based at Alder House, Newport and provide project support to live construction projects and feasibility projects for cancer treatment and diagnostic centres. The role is varied and includes working across multiple projects with various stakeholders. No two days are ever the same! I am currently working closely with the Rutherford Team on the refurbishment work at the Rutherford Diagnostics Centre Somerset. Support may include administrative support, research and collation of information and ensuring that the correct governance procedures are being adhered to.
My day-to-day interaction includes working with various team members including both Abbey & Lizzie."
In recent months and aside from the pandemic, there have been significant developments at Rutherford Estates. These have included new team members, the commencement of the Rutherford Diagnostics Centre Somerset project and the completion of the Rutherford Cancer Centre North West.
